Stopping drinking alcohol is easy for some, moderately difficult for others, and very challenging for others still. Additionally, many individuals are able to quit drinking… but staying alcohol-free or sober long-term is much more difficult for them.
Popular advice is to simply work a strong Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) program, however, while AA has remarkable and unmatched results with a select percentage of the population, it doesn’t appear to be the best choice to stay alcohol-free for 100% of the population.
Due to vast differences in human values, personalities, world views, beliefs, culture, faith, desires, goals, preferences, addiction severity, level of care (LOC) needed, resources, experiences, upbringing, knowledge, addiction/recovery philosophy, access to meetings and support, IQ, EQ, and countless other variables, AA seems to work better than anything else for some individuals — yet for many other individuals, after learning about AA or trying it out, they find more resonance using different resources, evidence-based or not (or a combination of both) for staying sober off alcohol.
Since there are so many different and very unique individuals that want to remain sober from alcohol, it’s important to provide a ‘How To Stay Alcohol-Free Menu Of Options’ — and that way a person can have more treatment options, therapies, strategies, resources, and tools to choose from for navigating the challenges of remaining sober from alcohol for 30 days, 90 days, 1 year, 10 years, 20 years, or for the remainder of a person’s life (depending on their unique goals regarding alcohol consumption).
In this episode, Matt Finch covers ‘How To Stay Alcohol-Free (AF) After Quitting’ (With AA or other support groups, or without AA or other support groups, depending on the individual’s preferences).

Perfect timing on this podcast for me. Now that I have the biochemistry somewhat under control, not drinking, I was wondering what next? I like the idea of reinventing myself and this gave me the plan to accomplish that!
